Take A Trip Across Australia’s Wine Regions
There is no better way to enjoy great wine than by taking a trip through our fabulous wine regions. There you can indulge in wine tasting of some great wines from any given region around the country.
An often rewarding experience is conversing with a very passionate winemakers while sampling their wines.
To organise such a trip is usually very easy indeed as almost all the state and territory capitals have a selection of fine nearby winery vineyards to visit, some of which can be done during a simple day trip. Even if you are going interstate, a quick winery tour is a grand way to spend a day or three.
And in WA, you can’t go past Margaret River or the Swan Valley for some of the country’s best wines.
In Adelaide you are spoiled with choice as the regions of McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley and Eden Valley are barely a stone’s throw away.
Down south, Hobart has the vineyards of the Derwent to explore. Victoria has great wineries such as the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Geelong, Gippsland, Sunbury and Macedon Ranges all just outside of Melbourne.
If travelling out of Sydney, you should get to Mudgee, the Hunter Valley and Orange.
While often overlooked, Brisbane has the vineyards of the Granite Belt around Stanthorpe. Make sure not to miss Canberra, who’s wineries benefit from the colder temperature.
Its obvious that our country is rich for choice when it comes to having some of the world’s greatest wine regions. All you really need is a map, full tank of petrol, designated driver and the great wines of Australia are waiting for you.
Before you embark, here’s a few ideas to consider. Before heading off, I’d suggest doing a little planning in deciding which vineyards to visit, such as web search of some of the better wine regions.
Try not to overdo it by visiting several wineries at time as you many find the wines start tasting somewhat similar. Happy trails!
