What Makes Wine Special
A bottle of good wine is an essential part of any special occasion, whether it’s a wedding, debut, or even a funeral. Wine is present in every festival, signifying merriment and celebration. Dionysus, the Greek and Roman wine deity is held in high regard by its followers, suggesting that, indeed, wine is a very valuable drink.
The variety of wine has a wide range. This variety came from the different types of grapes used for the drink, as well as how long the wine is left to ferment. Other than the popular use of grape juice, some wine manufacturer also use all sorts of fruits for winemaking. There’s also a kind of wine that uses berries instead of fruits, and this is usually the type of wine that does not contain too much alcohol.
Now, you might be wondering why grapes are more often used in winemaking, compared to other fruits. One of the reason is that grape contains just the right amount of sugar so that winemakers won’t have to add any sweetener for the fermentation of this drink. Also, grape has a subtle flavor that is improved during fermentation. Moreover, the wide variety of grapes produces different kinds of wine, so winemakers have a lot to choose from when manufacturing wines for different occasions.
Even the region where the grapevine is grown affects the taste of the grape, as well as the kind of wine produced. The grapevine that produces Sauvignon Blanc, for example, ranges from grassy to tropical, depending on the climate of the region.
A particular wine is partnered with a specific type of dish. The general rule that applies is that you must always pair the wine and meat based on their color; hence, beef that is red meat must be paired with red wine. But of course, pairings can get a bit more trickier than that. Some food, such as cheese, makes determining the rich combination more difficult because there are also different types of cheeses available. Wines like Sauvignon Blanc should be ideal for different types of cheeses..
For exotic food, you must be careful in finding the right wine to pair it with. There are only a few types of wine that can go well with raw food such as sushi. But some white wines will do, as they naturally pair with fish.
